The mirror is no longer
a friend,
but a cold reminder
of the body she doesn't have.
Her hair is not
perfect,
her frame is not slender,
she is not a size
0.
The boys tease her
not so small frame and
the girls call her
fat.
Someone should tell her,
size 6 is not fat,
but no one does.
The cookie she longs to eat,
sits on the table
but still she resists, because of the
taunts and laughs
she still recalls.
Undateable, unlovable
because her jeans are too big.
Anorexia and bulemia are old friends.
Her parents worry she's
getting to thin,
but ignore the signs and the
tears in her eyes.
Her friends try to tell
her, shes perfect
the way God made her.
The problem is
she doesn't see it.
She sees the layers of fat
no one else does.
She sees the imperfections that
no one else does.
She hears the words that no one
else does.
This is the result
of those who tease and
bully.
One day your words will
be her end.
They will put her in the ground
and what will you do?
Will you grieve for the girl you teased?
Will guilt now be
your comfort as you stand next to her grave?
Image is just a reflection in the
mirror that became her
terror.
Words mean more that
what you are
saying.
They mean life and death
to those who listen
and those you tear down
with the words you say.
In the end
what will you say
when you look at her parents
and know that you
tore her down.
Words have the power to
do more than hurt
they have the power to
end life.
When you look at the girl
who wears a
larger size or
doesn't have
perfect skin or hair,
What will you say to her?
Will you remember that your words
hold the power to make her
smile or break her.
When will we realize
there is no perfection to be achieved.
Only beauty in all shapes, sizes
and colors.
