Hidden Inside

So many things, 

she keeps inside, 

so many things her smile

does hide. 

The things she doesn't share

no one would 

understand. 

She hides herself,

from the world 

knowing the loneliness 

that will wrap around her 

like a glove. 

She smiles, but not

inside.

Her heart that once

was whole, 

she protects the pieces that 

are left. 

The pieces she clings to,

as a lifeline. 

The pieces

that she managed to hold onto

the day he left. 

She knows what it costs to love,

and vows,

never to trust that much 

again. 

She keeps him at arms length, 

smiles when he is near,

when all she 

wants to do is run away. 

She knows, 

he will never know 

the pain she 

felt, 

the tears she tried not 

to cry

and all that she still holds 

deep inside.
